ERNIE KROEGER
Ernie Kroeger was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba and Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Calgary. His artwork has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Canada as well as several in Europe. Key exhibitions include Family Stories and The Great Divide. His most recent solo exhibitions are Scritti di Natura at the Museo Nazionale della Montagna in Turin, Italy and Beetle Letters at the Kamloops Art Gallery. Kroeger’s artwork is represented in the public collections of the Alberta Art Foundation, Canada Council Art Bank, Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, Edmonton Art Gallery and Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies. He has been the recipient of a number of awards and grants, most notably the Barbara Spohr Award for Photography. His book, The Great Divide, collaboration with Alberto Manguel, was published by The Banff Centre Press.
Kroeger has been an art educator for twenty years and has taught at the University of Manitoba, the Alberta College of Art & Design, the University of Calgary and the Banff Centre for the Arts. He has lectured on photography and given artist talks at the University of Lethbridge, Ontario College of Art & Design, Sheridan College, Memorial University (Corner Brook, Newfoundland), University of Veracruz (Xalapa, Mexico) and Centro Nacionale de les Artes (Mexico City). Kroeger presently resides in Kamloops, British Columbia, where he is Assistant Professor in the Visual and Performing Arts Department of Thompson Rivers University.
